BOOMERANG SOUNDS Balanced Lead 2.5mm TRRS (and earth) to 2x Male XLRs for Astell & Kern Players or Onkyo DP-X1 - 2m Cable as standard

This lead is to feed a balanced power amplifier or active speakers from an Onkyo DP-X1 or any A&K player with a balanced output on TRRS 2.5mm jack. This 4 pole balanced socket carries the hot and cold balanced signals for left and right and is ideal for driving balanced headphones. The socket does not have a 5th pole for the earth (ground/screen) needed for hum-free audio when feeding a balanced amp. So, an earth connection needs to be taken from the headphone socket as stated in the A&K manuals.

Balanced Out: Output sound to earphones or headphones that support balanced audio connections. Connect to an external audio device by using both the earphone port (ground) and balanced audio port (LR) in conjunction.

Compatible Models:

  • Onkyo DP-X1.
  • Any A&K model with a with 2.5mm Balanced TRRS Output including AK70, AK100, AK120, AK240, AK300, AK320, AK380.
  • Other makes with 2.5mm Balanced TRRS may need a special version of this lead. Please enquire.

We custom made the lead in the photos for a customer. "Thanks a lot for this, playing the AK300 via the balanced output is amazing. No hiss at all its so quiet I've never heard the [Yamaha] HS80 sound so good, You should go into production I bet there's plenty of audiophiles that would be interested in this".

Each lead is hand-made to order in our workshop. We use the same Van Damme Oxygen Free cable and Neutrik NC3MXX male XLRs that we use in all of our studio installations.

As the balanced output is on a 2.5mm jack, we have to use two very thin balanced cables to fit into the very small connector. Along with the earth wire, there are 7 connections to be made which is very fiddly to do! Fortunately, Van Damme make a 2 pair cable which when the outer jacket is removed, just fits into the mini-jack's strain relief.

The standard lead priced here is 2m long but for a little extra we can make it any length you wish. There are two types shown in the photos. If you are using the XLRs to feed a stereo amp, we will leave on the outer jacket for most of the length, tailing the pairs out at each end. If you are connecting one XLR to each powered speaker or active studio monitor, we will remove the jacket entirely. Then we pair the leads together for the first metre at the A&K end with rubber sleeving every 12cm (approx) as you can see in the photo.

Custom Lengths and Versions
Please see the various options in the 6th picture. Then let us know which variant is best for you - There is no extra charge for this. Cables longer than the standard 2m are charged at £4.00+VAT per metre extra. Please also advise which player you have, especialy if it is not A&K or Onkyo as it may require us to wire the lead internally in a different way.
